More about Light Horn
Did you know?
The cow horn used for our knife handles is softened in boiling water. It is first cut into plates and then calibrated to the nearest millimetre to adapt to the left and right sides of each knife.
Horn is a living material and everything is handmade. As a result, every cow horn, and therefore every knife, is slightly different. There may be varying degrees of white or brown streaking on the handles.
The horns of goats, rams, chamois and sheep are most commonly used for the manufacture of regional knives.
In all cases, horn is a fragile material, which is very prone to drying out due to the ambient heat. To maintain it, simply nourish it with pure neatsfoot oil, which will prevent the formation of fissures in periods of high temperatures.
