find out more about EBONY

Ebony is considered precious.

It is deep black, sometimes veined. It glistens, is very smooth, whether mat or shiny and it is very heavy due to its high density.

It is often used in the making of works of art and ornaments. From the Renaissance, ebony became considered to be among the most valuable goods to sail the seas. Indeed, its name is the etymological origin of the French word "ébéniste" for a craftsman who makes furniture.

Did you know that ebony is actually grey? Its distinctive darkness is due to a parasite. It is a mushroom that blackens the heart of the wood.
