Laguiole extra flat knife in rosewood

We've rejuvenated the Laguiole knife by slimming it down. The blade is the same as on a traditional knife, but it's lighter. The place of manufacture remains the same: Thiers, the cutlery capital of France for 6 centuries.

    More about rosewood

There are different varieties of rosewood: those used for perfume distillation (female rosewood), and those more commonly used to make antique furniture.

This wood was often used to make flowers in marquetry bouquets, which is why our English-speaking friends call it “tulipwood”.

The French name “bois de rose” is due to its unusual color and pleasant, sweet aromatic scent.

Rosewood is a very hard wood, with a pinkish, lightly scented heartwood. The heartwood is violet-red, with varying shades of violet-black.

It is one of the most expensive woods in the world, used in cabinet-making and perfumery.  It is found in Madagascar, for example. Since 2013, this wood has been classified under CITES (Conference of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) in order to regulate trade.
