More about Violet Wood
Violet wood has a purplish tinge when fresh, hence the name ‘violet wood’, which has become ‘bois de violette’. Its colour changes to brown over time.
The grain is tight, fine and even.
The grain is straight.
To create interesting graphic effects, it is usually cut into veneers, in different planes, to highlight its dark veins.
The Anglo-Saxons call it Kingwood, which means ‘King's wood’, because in the 17th and 18th centuries it was reserved for the nobility and aristocracy, hence its name.
